Building upon 10 years of collaborative
research, the AGS has launched the first of what it hopes will be a
number of flagship programs focused on broad topics of global
importance. In March 2005, the Alliance for Global Sustainability
(AGS) launched its first “flagship” program of integrated research,
education, and outreach. Announced at the AGS annual meeting, the
“Energy Flagship” will include a set of regional projects that focus
on select energy sectors under the theme “Near-Term Pathways to a
Sustainable Energy Future.”
Following on the successful start
of the Energy Flagship Program, the AGS has initiated a second
flagship on food and water, “Secure Ecosystem Services for a
Nourished World”. The program, introduced at the 2006 AGS annual
meeting in Bangkok, will identify development paths for social and
technical systems, which aim for a nourished world in balance with
the provisioning ecosystem.
