Research Results About Longevity And Anti-Aging

For decades, scientists and biologists all over the world have been striving to know the secrets behind longevity and how to increase lifespan. Who doesn’t want to turn back the clock’s time and live for some more with energy and liveliness? The aging process itself has been scrutinized and studied with laborious detail. Till date, 4 various anti-aging supplements have been discovered by tests in mice which have proved to slow down not only aging but all the age-related diseases as well. These laboratory tests in mice have elongated the lifespan by 15 to 25%. Biogerontologists are very confidant with these results and it is obvious that the drugs which have worked on mice will work on humans most probably as well. In order to know more about potential anti-aging drugs, read below.

Anti-aging drugs in the near future

There are 4 medicines with maximum anti-aging benefits. One of them is an experimental chemical named Rapamycin.

  1. Rapamycin is administered in human patients to stop cancerous growth of various types. Recently, this drug was injected in laboratory mice to determine if there are any anti-aging properties involved. Fortunately, both female and male mice had an increase of 20% in their lifespans. Now, scientists are wondering if Rapamycin is safe to be used for humans but one thing is sure that it can be easily used to ward off age-related diseases. A study was reported that the injection of Rapamycin in old aged people led to better immunity in cold and flu. Now what is left is to find out the results of the drug regarding physiological decline.
  2. There is another drug known as Acarbose which treats diabetes in certain countries. This drug was recently discovered to have anti-aging characteristics in the laboratories. Scientists have reported that in male mice, there was a 22% increase in lifespan whereas an almost similar but smaller effect was seen in the female mice with 5 to 10%. This extension in the lifetimes is very promising.
  3. Another drug which goes by the name of 17-alpha-estradiol, has lengthened the lifespan in male mice by 15 to 18%. This drug is the chemical variant of a hormone named Estrogen (17-beta-estradiol). No anti-aging benefit was shown in the female mice.

Other methods to achieve a longer lifespan

As scientists do not restrict themselves to drugs and pills only to control aging because one should always have alternatives, following are other healthy ways to elongate the lifespan as well.

Genetic Mutation

Studies have been conducted on mice in this aspect as well. A few mice were given single-gene mutants and the results show a surprising increase of lifespan by more than 40%. Scientists agree that these genetically modified mice should be used for further studies to know how they can control aging

Wrapping it up

These snippets of aging research on mice have revealed that the future is bright and science will definitely find out more in the coming future. Moreover, the myths and doubts which some people had about the possibility of anti-aging methods have disappeared with these fruitful findings as well.
