Urban Systems

Urbanization is one of the most powerful phenomena influencing global sustainability prospects today. The convergence of economic growth, population growth, and urban expansion offers both great challenges and great potential for realizing metropolitan sustainability. Perhaps nowhere are these challenges more dominant than in the rapidly growing cities of the developing world. AGS projects are investigating integrated management of the megacities. Ongoing work in projects on mobility, water, and energy also focus on meeting needs in growing urban environments and the special challenges that this growth raises.

AGS research projects on urban systems include:

  • AGS Future Cities: Guangzhou
  • Air Pollution in Mega-Cities of the Developing World
  • Tokyo Half Project: Evaluating CO2 Emission Reduction Using Sustainable Collaboration Platform
  • Designing, Implementing, and Measuring Sustainable Urban Development (DIMSUD)
